    School transport subsidised tickets

School transport subsidised tickets are intended for upper secondary students who receive school transport support granted by Kela. With a subsidised ticket, you can travel between your home and your educational institution or your on-the-job learning location.

School transport support from Kela is applied for using an online application in the OmaKela e-service (in Finnish and Swedish). To apply for the support independently, the student must have online banking credentials or a mobile ID.

For more information and instructions on how to apply for school transport support, visit www.kela.fi/school-transport-subsidy.

Please note that tickets supported by Kela must always be purchased for one travel card at a time. If you purchase Kela-subsidized tickets for multiple travel cards simultaneously, each purchase will reduce your purchase entitlement separately.

How to Buy a School Transport Subsidy Ticket from the Waltti Webshop

To purchase a school transport subsidized ticket from the Waltti webshop, you need:

    • An approved school transport subsidy from Kela (via OmaKela)
Your purchase right is verified during each ticket purchase through strong authentication (online banking credentials or mobile certificate).
    • A user account in the Waltti webshop
If you don’t have one yet, click Register to create an account.
    • A personal Waltti travel card linked to your account
If you don’t have a card, you can order it from the webshop or your city’s public transport service point. You can buy the ticket only after receiving the card.

    Steps to Buy the Ticket:

    1. Log in to the Waltti webshop and click Identify strongly.
    2. Link your Waltti card to your account using Update travel card list or add the card manually with the card number.
    3. Find your linked card and click Purchase a season ticket.
    4. Click Check to retrieve your approved subsidy details from Kela.
    5. If prompted, approve updating your card to a student travel card.
    6. Select your start and end zones. Note: Some Waltti cities offer a full-area ticket for students receiving Kela’s subsidy – in such cases, all zones must be selected. Please check your local public transport website for detailed instructions.
    7. Choose your ticket (full month or half month*) and click Add to shopping cart.
    8. Proceed to payment. If the ticket is free of charge, it will be automatically loaded to your card. If there is a co-payment, select a payment method and complete the purchase.
